Your despatch No. 79 Staff of 15th October, 1948.
Retablishment of gazetted officers - Police.
I approve your recomendations for iccrease in establishment of gazetted Police officers.
2.
I note that policy of appointment of local officers to gazetted rank, as soon as they have acquired necessary training and experience, will in due course anable factor for leave to be considerably reduced and thereby make possible corresponding reduction in establishment.
3.
Please confirm by telegram whether you wish fourteen additional officers for permanent establishment to be recruited here forthwith (paragraph 5 of your telegram No. 84 refers). Preliminary steps now being taken; paper of particulars forwarded with your savingram No. 42 Staff of 1948, will be used with
amendment regarding cost of living allowance necessitated by recent revision. Please telegraph any further
amendmente necesurry. Fow, if any, officers with experience in Colonial Police Service are likely to be available
on transfer and recruitment will have to be mostly
from outside sources.
